Social and Civic
Participation
A key aspect of the work we do is supporting peoples’ social lives and recreation time. We know that it is important to have friends and enjoy time in the community participating in interesting activities.

We will work with you to develop a plan to meet your individual goals and support you with participating in the community. Our programs focus on skills-development and promoting a sense of value and inclusion for group participants. This could be building, maintaining and improving your relationships with friends, family and other key support services in your life such as school, TAFE and providers of housing.
In your NDIS plan Social and Civic Participation is under the section ‘Increased Social and Community Participation’ which can be used for either individual skill development and training, such as work skills, cooking lessons, accessing and using public transport, domestic tasks, financial management and budgeting.
We offer quality, group community programs to encourage people to engage with friends, make new social connections, and enjoy time out in the community participating in interesting activities. We believe that community participation is key to build and improve participants’ confidence and that it paves the way for our participants to achieve their goals.
Our weekly community participation programs in the Hunter are fun and practical. Among the activities we offer are:
- The Sista Circle: a safe place for females to come together in a group and, with guidance and support
- Yarn Up: a program aimed at Aboriginal men to strengthen the social and emotional wellbeing through connecting to Self, Community, Culture and Country.
- Art Groups
